My kindergarten teacher gave us a challenge: tell your mother you love her. And tell her she’s pretty.?
?
“What if my mom’s not pretty?” some kid asked.?
?
“She is!” Mrs. Lim said with a stern look.?
Well, I’d never considered whether my mom was pretty or not. She was just my mom.?
?
I went home and promptly forgot all about my assignment. ?
?
The following Saturday, Mom was changing the laundry. I was helping by getting in her way.?
?
I looked up at Mom in her yellow polkadot polyester shirt with a butterfly collar. Her dark hair was cropped short. She was softly whistling a tune: Mairzy Dotes.?
?
I remembered Mrs. Lim’s assignment. ?
“I love you Mommy!” I blurted.?
?
“Thanks Sweetie; I love you too.”?
?
I swallowed hard. “You’re pretty,” I muttered.?
?
A big, radiant smile spread across Mom’s face. And I realized I meant every word.?
?
I still do.?
?
I love you Mom! You’re beautiful.?
?
Today’s cufflink is: TELL HER SHE’S PRETTY.
