Yesterday was a cool, cloudy day. Perfect for taking a drive. And that’s just what we did.?
?
2 parents, 2 boys, 2 girls, 2 dogs. 1 car.?
?
We ended up at Market Lake, outside Roberts Idaho. It is a wildlife management area. A bird refuge. And let me tell ya, there’s plenty of birds there. It was a beautiful drive and a lovely walk. The dogs were so happy to get out and run. It was doggie Disneyland.?
?
We found an old dirt road that wound through the lava rocks next to the marsh. It was a long, rough road, but a lot of fun to follow it. The road took us up a small hill where we found an old cemetery. 2 gravestones. Earl “Doc” Jones and his wife Bessie.?
?
They met in 1919 when Bessie came to Roberts with a travelling road show. Earl was a small town doctor and a rancher. It’s hard to imagine raising cattle and wild hay in that area. It’s rough terrain. In the middle of nowhere. But Doc Jones had a mantra. No night too dark & stormy, no road too bad or long. It was inscribed on his headstone.?
?
My wife said, “wouldn’t it be cool if we found out we’re related to them?”?
?
I did some digging this morning.?
?
Earl “Doc” Jones was my wife’s 8th cousin.?
?
Bessie Bradley Jones was my 8th cousin.?
?
Go for a drive. Find an old road. See what you discover.?
?
Today’s cufflink is: NO ROAD TOO BAD OR LONG.
